Product Details
This is a stunning Pure Handloom Behrampuri silk with double Pallu saree from Odisha, often referred to as a Brahmapur Pata saree. Here’s a detailed description:
Body: The body of the saree is a striking dark color, likely a deep grey or black. It features a grid pattern formed by thin, lighter lines, and within each square of the grid, there are delicate white floral or stylized geometric motifs. These smaller motifs are evenly distributed, adding subtle elegance to the main expanse of the saree.
Borders: The saree showcases a magnificent “Ganga Jamuna” border, meaning the two borders are of different colors. One border is a vibrant yellow, while the other is a rich dark grey or black, matching the body of the saree. Both borders are intricately woven with traditional Odishan patterns, including rows of small geometric designs and what appear to be “temple” or “kumbha” motifs (pointed, stepped designs often resembling temple spires). These borders are a hallmark of Behrampuri sarees, known for their elaborate and heavy design.
Pallu (Anchal): The pallu (the decorative end of the saree) is exceptionally rich and visually dominant. It features wide, horizontal bands of various vibrant colors, creating a striking contrast with the more subdued body. The colors visible in the pallu include:
- Yellow: A bright and prominent yellow band.
- Deep Purple/Maroon: A rich, dark red or purplish band.
- Blue/Teal: Bands in shades of blue or teal.
- Green: A band of deep green.
- Orange/Brown: A band with an earthy orange or brown hue.
Within each of these colorful bands, there are large, intricately woven motifs. These motifs are notably of animal figures, specifically:
- Elephants: Stylized elephant motifs are prominently featured, often in contrasting colors (e.g., yellow elephants on a dark background, or light-colored elephants on a vibrant background). These elephants are depicted with detailed outlines and sometimes with internal patterns.
- Deer or other quadruped animals: Some bands also feature what appear to be deer or similar four-legged animals, also intricately woven.
Separating these vibrant colored bands with animal motifs are narrower bands filled with smaller geometric patterns, stripes, and traditional designs that add to the overall richness and complexity of the pallu.
