Description
Product Details
This is a vibrant Pure Handloom Behrampuri silk with double Pallu saree from Odisha, also known as a Brahmapur Patta saree. Here’s a detailed description:
Body: The main body of the saree is a rich, deep red color, adorned with small, evenly spaced motifs. These motifs appear to be a traditional "buti" design, possibly depicting floral patterns or small geometric shapes, woven in a contrasting color (likely white or off-white) that stands out against the red background.
Borders (Ganga Jamuna Style): A striking feature of this saree is its "Ganga Jamuna" border, meaning the two borders of the saree are in different colors. One border is a vibrant green, and the other is a rich orange or yellow. Both borders feature intricate “kumbha” or temple motifs, a hallmark of Odissi weaving. These temple designs are characterized by their stepped, pyramidal patterns, often seen in the architecture of Odishan temples. Within these borders, there are also fine geometric or traditional patterns.
Pallu (Anchal): The pallu (the decorative end of the saree) is a masterpiece of Behrampuri weaving. It is elaborately designed with wide horizontal bands of contrasting colors and intricate patterns. The prominent colors in the pallu include red, orange/yellow, and green, mirroring the body and border colors, creating a harmonious yet striking overall look. Within these bands, there are rich traditional motifs such as:
Chakra (wheel) motifs: These are sacred symbols often seen in Odissi textiles.
Bird motifs: Stylized birds, possibly swans or ducks, are woven into the design, adding a touch of nature and elegance.
Floral or creeper patterns: Delicate floral or vine-like designs fill the spaces between the larger motifs and color bands.
Overall Characteristics:
Material: The saree is made of pure silk, known for its luxurious texture and sheen, which is characteristic of Berhampuri Patta sarees. These sarees are historically known for their thick silk.
Weave: It is a handloom saree, indicating the meticulous craftsmanship involved. Behrampuri sarees are famous for their unique “Phoda Kumbha” weaving technique, where the temple motifs are distinctly woven.
Cultural Significance: Behrampuri silk sarees are deeply rooted in Odishan culture and are often worn on auspicious occasions like weddings and festivals.
They also hold religious significance, having been traditionally used to adorn the deities in the Jagannath Temple in Puri. The saree might also come with a matching "joda" for men, a unique tradition associated with Behrampuri Pata.
GI Tag: The Berhampuri Pata saree has a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, signifying its origin and unique qualities tied to the Berhampur region of Odisha.
