Product Details
This Pure Handwoven Behrampuri silk saree with double pallu, also known as a Brahmapur Pata, is a striking example of Odishan handloom artistry, characterized by its intricate weaving and vibrant color contrasts.
Body: The main body of the saree is a deep, rich black or very dark grey. It features a prominent grid or checkered pattern woven in white or a very light contrasting color. Within each square of this grid, there is a small, delicate white floral or leaf-like motif. This gives the body a sophisticated and textured appearance.
Borders: The saree has a prominent, medium-width border in a contrasting light color, likely white or off-white. This border is adorned with traditional Odissi motifs, notably temple (kumbha) patterns, which are jagged or stepped designs resembling temple spires. There are also fine striped patterns or other geometric designs woven into the border, adding to its intricacy.
Pallu (Anchal): The pallu is the most elaborate and colorful part of the saree. It features wide horizontal bands of various bright and contrasting colors, creating a rainbow-like effect. The colors visible include:
- Orange/Rust
- Deep Red
- Vibrant Purple
- Bright Blue
- Green (lime or emerald)
- Yellow
Within these broad color bands, there are distinct, richly woven motifs in contrasting colors. These motifs appear to be a mix of traditional Odissi designs, possibly including:
- Chakra (wheel) motifs: Visible on the orange and blue bands.
- Stylized bird or animal motifs: Such as a peacock-like bird on the red band, and potentially other stylized animals or geometric shapes.
- Intricate floral or vine patterns: Filling the spaces between the larger motifs and the color divisions.
The pallu is bordered by several thin white lines and additional small patterns, further enhancing its decorative appeal. The overall design of the pallu is rich and complex, a hallmark of Behrampuri weaving.
